1 cup black chana, a finely chopped onion, 2-3 tomatoes, 2 green chilies, 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp red chili powder, 1 tsp garam masala, Salt to taste, 4 cups water, Fresh coriander leaves for garnish, 1-2 tbsp oil
Firstly, you have to soak the black chana in water. You need to keep it overnight. This will save you a lot of time while making the soup.
Take a pressure cooker. Add 3-4 cups of water and the chana with a pinch of salt. Cook for about 3-4 whistles. Make sure they are tender. You can also use a pot instead of cooker. Boil until they turn soft.
In a large pot, put some oil to heat. Put cumin seeds in the heated oil. Now you can add the chopped onions. Cook until they turn golden brown.
Stir in the ginger garlic paste in it. Then, sauté for a minute. Make sure the raw smell disappears.
Now put the chopped tomatoes with chilies. To this, add turmeric and red chilli powder. You can add salt as per your taste. Cook until the tomatoes become soft and the oil starts to separate.
Once the tomatoes are cooked, add the boiled black chana along with the water in it. Bring it to a boil.
Now you can put the gas on low flame. It will let the soup simmer. Do it for about 10-15 minutes. It will thicken the soup. This will give your soup the best flavour.
Now you can add the garam masala. Let it cook for another 2-3 minutes. Top it with fresh coriander leaves. Your black chana soup is ready to serve now!
